Blog 7- Contrast Scale

Image
This week in class we continued to talk about the Principles of Design; Rhythm, Proportion, and Scale.   - Rhythm is when we arrange elements so there is a sense of repetition, progress, transition, or contrast. Rhythm is used to help enhance a space and direct our eyes around that space.     -- There are several different types of rhythm which include repetition, gradation, contrast, Transition, and Radiation.   --- Repetition is when something is repeated over and over, which creates stability .   ---Gradation is when something uniformly increases or decreases in size or color.   ---Contrast is when there is a when two objects are similar but diffe r in color, shape, or size which is seen as dynamic.   ---Transition is when something smoothly guides us to something that is different.   ---Radiation is when something revolves around a central axis.   -Proportion is when the size of objects fit together .   - Scale is h...

Chapter 6 of Sketching Interiors is titled Texture. When drawing, it is important to present different textures for different materials . In the book it describes the difference between drawing windows from the exterior to interior. From the exterior the glass is darker, and mullions are lighter, whereas from the interior it is the opposite because light it being let into the building. When drawing bricks , for example, you may simply draw some of the surrounding bricks, and fill in the rest of the space to give the appearance of a full brick wall. This works similarly with shingles on a roof, although you may leave the area white to show that it reflects light. For ceilings with a lot of detail, put the darkest values and the most amount of detail to what is closest to you, and the further away get lighter, smaller, and less detail. Shadows, as we learned from previous readings, are key to sketching, so that our drawings have depth, and the different values help the drawing...

Chapter 7 from Form, Space, and Order by Ching is titled Principled.   Some ordering principles that help to create a harmonious arrangement are axis (a line established by two points), symmetry ( equivalent forms on both sides), hierarchy (significance of a form by s ize, shape, placement, color, etc. relative to other forms), rhythm (patterned repet ition), datum (a form that unifies the rest), and transformation ( form altered through series of manipulations).   The rest of the chapter continues to give examples of these ordering principles, mainly in architecture, but also in art and other things we use in our daily lives such as music.       Chapter 5 of Sketching Interiors is titled Perception of Spatial Relations.   When drawing perspectives, there are many ways to lay out your drawing, such as free hand , estimated method , or common method. The three different types of perspectives are one-, two-, and three-point perspectives.  ...
